President Ryuho Okawa's original work "Guideline of the Heart" is serialized in the Happy Science's publication Monthly 'Happy Science'. Posters are displayed at branches nationwide, and it is widely known as the monthly face of Happy Science.

This month, important guidelines regarding the existence of the opposite sex, which can be a significant worry and joy for humans, were discussed. We asked Ms. Sachi Ozawa, who has been involved in editing women's magazines for many years and is currently the head of the temple, for hints on learning from this guideline.

Born in Tokyo in 1957. Graduated from the Faculty of Sociology at Rikkyo University. After working at major publishing companies, she joined Happy Science in 1995. She has held positions such as Deputy Director of the Second Editorial Bureau, Director of the Fifth Editorial Bureau, Head of Shinjuku Temple open_in_new, and Head of Hakone Temple open_in_new, and has been in her current position since January 2022.

From Love Between Men and Women to Higher Love

As I deeply learned this month's guideline, I felt that how one perceives "seeking the opposite sex" could significantly change the direction of their life.

This guideline discusses the social conditions from the era of high economic growth to the present, which I believe is also a flow of "materialism permeating society." As materialistic thinking progresses, one tends to think only of worldly matters, making the pursuit of "one's desires and physical pleasures" the center of life.

However, clinging to desires is a state of "grasping suffering" from the perspective of the divine. In that state, true happiness cannot be attained, and suffering will continue even after death.

So, how should we think about the issue of the opposite sex?

President Ryuho Okawa teaches that "the love between men and women is prepared as an opportunity to awaken to a higher love."

For example, whether as a couple or lovers, the Buddha expects not just to demand something from each other, but to "respect each other and discover the wonderful Buddha-nature within one another."

If through love one becomes aware of the "invisible value," it will also lead to "the enhancement of enlightenment."

What Love That Brings True Happiness Is

Previously, a young mother diagnosed with an ovarian tumor came to the temple for consultation while suffering from abdominal pain.

She was troubled by the thought that "her husband does not understand the difficulties of parenting," but after deepening her reflection at the temple, she became aware of and grateful for the love her husband was giving her.

After regaining her smile and receiving prayers for her recovery, she underwent a re-examination and found that the tumor had completely disappeared.

In this way, by shedding the mindset of "love that takes away" and deepening gratitude and love, a truly rich and happy life begins.

In modern times, there are issues of sexual disorder and LGBTQ, but first and foremost, humbly learning the heart of the Creator who created men and women is perhaps the most important thing for humanity.
