What is Happy Science?

Happy Science was founded in 1986 by President Ryuho Okawa.
Since its establishment, we have been engaged in activities to spread 'happiness' based on a true worldview.

Human beings are spiritual beings with a soul residing in a physical body, and the heart is their essence.
We are beings that reincarnate in this world and the next, growing our souls through various life experiences.
Gods and Buddhas exist, and they guide humanity through the past, present, and future.

Spreading these spiritual truths and exploring true happiness for humanity, while realizing the peaceful and prosperous world that God and Buddhas desire, is the mission and purpose of Happy Science.

To realize this mission, Happy Science engages in enlightenment activities through lectures, books, and media, as well as various social contribution activities, and also tackles politics, education, and international projects.

In a modern world where spiritual truths are forgotten and the value of religion is lost, Happy Science continues to challenge the possibilities of religion.

Why did the universe come into existence? Why is there birth, aging, sickness, and death? How can people live happily with others?

President Ryuho Okawa teaches numerous doctrines centered on religious truths, covering politics, economics, management, education, the universe, science, and art.

These teachings have spread beyond Japan to all five continents, becoming a guiding principle for many people's lives.

Through 'spiritual messages' that clarify the thoughts and feelings of various spiritual beings, including gods, angels, historical figures, and living people's guardian spirits, we conduct thorough 'proof of the existence of the afterlife.'

The Happy Science Group produces numerous live-action, animated, and documentary films under the direction, original work, and planning of President Ryuho Okawa. Each work depicts humanity's ideals, the direction to move forward, true worldviews, and spirituality, conveying many messages to people around the world.

For those who wish to become members of Happy Science, there are two stages: the first stage is "membership" and the next is the "Three Refuges Vow."

The "Three Refuges" in the "Three Refuges Vow" is an abbreviation of the term "Three Treasures Refuge." "Three Treasures Refuge" means to take refuge in the "three treasures." "Refuge" is a term often used in phrases like "taking refuge in Buddhism," but its original definition is to devote oneself completely to and worship something precious.

The form of faith in Happy Science is to take refuge in the "Buddha Treasure", "Law Treasure", and "Monk Treasure", which are the "Three Treasures".

"Buddha Treasure": The current Buddha, the only El Cantare, who teaches the Law, is President Ryuho Okawa.

"Law Treasure": The teachings of President Ryuho Okawa, who is El Cantare.

"Monk Treasure": A group that properly upholds the Law of El Cantare.

Humans are born into this world from heaven, and when their life in this world ends, they depart to the other world as souls. Souls possess eternal life and aim for infinite growth, repeatedly undergoing reincarnation. Based on this worldview, we seek "true happiness" that transcends this world and the next.

The pursuit of a righteous heart means having the correct faith and always making an effort to maintain a "heart that attracts happiness." The specific guidelines for this are the four right paths of the principles of happiness: "Love," "Wisdom," "Reflection," and "Development."

All teachings of Happy Science are summarized in the fundamental scripture, "Buddha's Teachings: Words of the Right Heart." It is a scripture written based on the revelations of Shakyamuni (Buddha) and has more than ten thousand times the merit of Buddhist scriptures.

New members receive the "Membership Edition: Words of the Right Heart," while those who take the Three Refuges Vow (those who vow to take refuge in the Three Treasures of Buddha, Law, and Monk and walk the path of faith) receive the "Buddha's Teachings: Words of the Right Heart" and three prayer scriptures.

Among the vast works of President Ryuho Okawa, these are particularly important three books that outline the teachings. Especially, "The Law of the Sun" is a "textbook for life" for all people and a modern scripture that should be understood deeply throughout one's life.

We believe that religious activities, such as branch activities and temple visits, which save souls, are the greatest social contribution and public service.

At the same time, we are making efforts to extend a helping hand to those suffering from poverty, disasters, disabilities, and mental illness through various means, starting with group activities to expand a concrete utopia.

Domestically, we are engaged in support for the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, operating schools for children who do not attend school open_in_new, suicide prevention activities open_in_new, support for people with disabilities open_in_new, and supporting a general incorporated foundation that addresses bullying issues.

Additionally, as part of international support, we are involved in various charities such as school construction, donation of teaching materials, and donation of clothing and goods in countries like Nepal, India, Malaysia, Uganda, Gaza, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar.

Furthermore, we have provided disaster recovery support in countries such as the United States, Mexico, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Chile, Haiti, Indonesia, and China.

These activities utilize a portion of the donations (offerings and contributions) from our member believers.

With everyone's cooperation, we plan to continue our social contribution activities.
