Q. What will I do once I become a member? What should I do after joining?

First, please read the fundamental scripture of Happy Science, "Words of Truth: Shoshin Hōgo", which is given to new members, once a day. Start by tuning your heart by reading "Words of Truth: Shoshin Hōgo" and taking time for gratitude. Then, learn the teachings of the heart as taught by President Ryuho Okawa, reflect and meditate during training sessions, and refine your own heart. While elevating your heart, engage in activities for the happiness of the community, such as being kind to others as a practice of the teaching of "love" or participating in branch activities.
Even if it's just a little time, let's make sure to have time to learn the teachings of President Ryuho Okawa and to pray. Also, be conscious of "doing something good every day or becoming a better version of myself" and live each day with that intention. If you keep this point in mind, you can proudly say that you are a member.

Also, please do visit the branch or temple. If you speak to the staff of Happy Science, they will answer your questions and guide you.

About 'Shoshin Hōgo'

'Shoshin Hōgo' is the fundamental scripture of Happy Science given to new members.

※ The 'Membership Edition Shoshin Hōgo' given to new members contains three scriptures: "Words of Truth: Shoshin Hōgo", "Prayer to the Lord", and "Prayer to Guardian and Guiding Spirits", which differ from the scriptures contained in the 'Buddha's Teachings: Shoshin Hōgo' given to those who take the Three Refuges.

"Words of Truth: Shoshin Hōgo" is the most important sutra in Happy Science. The content of this scripture is the 'core' of Happy Science's teachings and can be said to be the most important truth that humans should know. Famous texts like the "Lotus Sutra" and "Heart Sutra" were compiled and translated by later generations based on the teachings of Shakyamuni, but 'Shoshin Hōgo' was written through automatic writing by the revelation of the Buddha, and it is said to have a spiritual power that is over ten thousand times more effective than reading traditional sutras. By reciting 'Shoshin Hōgo', the light of the Buddha shines down, and the heart is purified.

About Faith Life

The basics of faith life are reading (praying) 'Shoshin Hōgo', learning the truth of the Buddha's teachings (study), and reflecting on one's own heart (self-reflection).

The content of 'Shoshin Hōgo' is at the center of all teachings of Happy Science. If you have the habit of reciting (dokuju) 'Shoshin Hōgo', the words will shine light into your life, and your life will improve. Also, let's reflect daily on whether we are living in a way that does not bring shame to the teachings of 'Shoshin Hōgo'.

The basics of study are listening to President Okawa's sermons and reading scriptures (books by President Ryuho Okawa). First, learn the knowledge of the truth of the Buddha's teachings. Then, transform that knowledge into 'wisdom' based on real experiences. By learning the truth of the Buddha's teachings in this way, you will acquire the power to solve problems and be able to live correctly.

If you make a mistake, you can erase it like an eraser through self-reflection. We originally existed as spirits living in the heavenly realm. Let's organize our hearts using methods such as meditation in addition to self-reflection and regain our true selves.

◆ We distribute the official email magazine 'Today's Maxim' (every morning at 8 AM) and 'HS News Plus' (irregularly).
