The Syndrome of Not Being Able to Become an Adult - Guidelines for the Heart by Ryuho Okawa - 204 -

Ryuho Okawa's original work, "Guidelines for the Heart," is serialized in the Happy Science's publication Monthly 'Happy Science'. Posters are displayed at branches nationwide, and it is widely known as the monthly face of Happy Science.

This month's "Guidelines for the Heart" illustrated what it means to "become an adult" as a person. I spoke with Mr. Kosuke Kushida from the Public Relations Department, who shared his experience of self-transformation through the teachings of President Okawa, saying, "I was indeed suffering from the 'Syndrome of Not Being Able to Become an Adult.'"

Living for myself...

After reading this month's "Guidelines for the Heart," I thought, "This is about me." In the past, although I was an adult in age, I was someone who did not treat myself as an adult, and I believe my upbringing was as fortunate as described here.

I was born into a kimono shop in Fukushima, loved by my parents and grandparents, and was a cheerful and popular figure at school. However, I struggled with studying and club activities, gradually choosing the easy path, trying to stand out by playing in a band during high school, and after graduation, I moved to Tokyo to work part-time while enjoying life...

The wall I hit was at the age of 24. I finally started looking for a job, but I was ignored everywhere and fell into a deep depression.

From 'for myself' to 'for others'

At that time, my father sent me President Ryuho Okawa's'The Laws of Happiness' open_in_new.

When I was 10 years old, my father introduced me to faith, and I respected President Okawa in my childlike heart, but as I leaned towards a life contrary to the truth, reading the scriptures of Happy Science became painful, and I avoided it.

"Isn't it time to discard the idea that 'I can be happy by receiving from others'?"

The words from the scriptures I opened after a long time resonated in my heart, and I cried in my small apartment. I still worry my parents, thinking 'receiving love is natural,' and lamenting 'I am unhappy' without making any significant effort— I realized my own foolishness.

Wanting to change myself, I began attending the Happy Science branch and awakened to 'living for others' through activities like 'suicide prevention.' When my heart changed, I surprisingly found a job, and while engaging in activities as a layperson, the path to ordination opened up.

Having accumulated a life of faith, I now feel that 'growing and being able to bear heavy responsibilities is a happy thing.' I am still insufficient, but to truly 'become an adult,' I believe it is necessary to decide 'this is the limit of living for myself' and aspire to live 'for others.'

I believe that only by accepting the ideals of the divine can one grow infinitely.
