This month's "Heart Guidance" teaches that "creating new memories is proof of being alive," and presents ways to spend our later years happily. I spoke with Michiko Tanaka from the senior information magazine 'Dream Human' for tips on how to keep life shining until the end.
President Ryuho Okawa's original work "Heart Guidance" is serialized in the Happiness Science's booklet Monthly 'Happiness Science'. Posters are displayed at branches nationwide, and it is widely known as the monthly face of Happiness Science.

Ways to Overcome Grief from Loss
After reading this month's "Heart Guidance," I felt that "living life to the fullest until the moment we leave this world" is the will of the divine and the way we should aspire to live.
I personally lost a close friend last year and my mother this spring. Reflecting on the past brings back joyful memories of outings and delicious meals shared. Parting is lonely and painful, but knowing the 'spiritual worldview' of Happiness Science allows for a different perspective.
The spiritual worldview is the idea that "life does not end in this world, and humans are reincarnating between this world and the next while training their souls." Since the soul is eternal, we can meet again even after death, and nothing learned in this life is wasted.
To Create 'New Memories'
Seniors gathering at Happiness Science are aware of this worldview and continue various efforts. For example, there are those in their 70s and 80s studying English or starting to challenge themselves with computers. Each of them is convinced that "the efforts made in this life will surely be useful in the next life," and they think, "I want to live positively no matter how old I get."
From these individuals, I sometimes hear stories of past memories. Some of these experiences must have been quite painful, yet somehow all memories are perceived positively. In other words, when the present is fulfilling, all past memories seem to become "important moments that have nourished me." I felt that this sense of happiness further empowers the creation of new memories.
As we age, the number of people who only live in memories increases year by year, but Happiness Science is a place where we can enrich the present and create 'new memories.'
Shall we learn this teaching together and walk a rich, active life?
